Books I Loved

Sharing is caring!

I have never been one to enjoy reading until this year. Thanks to my daughter for encouraging me to read more. Well actually, she shared with me the beauty of audiobooks. Follow along as I share all the books I loved in 2023 and how I learned to love reading again.

I set a goal for 2023 to read 45 books and am excited to say I read or listened to 56!

When my daughter told me she enjoys listening to books using an app on her phone I was intrigued.

Say what?! Audiobooks? Someone can read to ME, while I multi-task? That’s brilliant! But first I had to get a library card so I could “check out” books with the Libby app. I felt so, well Adult, with my new card. Would you believe me if I told you I have never owned a library card?

What Did I Listen To ?

I am still trying to figure out what my favorite genre is, however, I do know that I enjoy listening to books that are written about people I know. Well, I don’t KNOW them, but we all know OF them! Like Matthew Perry, Michelle Obama, and Prince Harry. Each one of these famous people has experienced very different lifestyles and personal experiences than I do, so I find it interesting to learn how they live.

Two of my favorite books in 2023

Matthew Perry fought drug addiction his entire life, may he rest in peace. Michelle Obama is one amazing woman. I enjoyed her story and her perspective on what it means to be the first lady. I would love to meet her in person someday. Reading one or all of Barrack’s books is a goal for 2024. Anything about the Royal family interests me, so Prince Harry’s book was a must-read, I can’t even begin to imagine what he went through with the loss of his mother. How we started to see the pattern with what happened to Dianna happening to Megan. The life (and family) he gave up to protect his wife and children from a world I will never understand. His book was an excellent read.

Who doesn’t love a good romance? Spending a week at the family lake home, the girl meets the boy, things get steamy, they fall in love, and live happily ever after. The only drawback to these books, the characters are all so YOUNG! I guess people my age don’t live these steamy, dreamy lives in the pages of books! lol. A few of my favorites include Hook Line and Sinker, Daisy Jones and the Six, and Beach Read.

Mystery and fictional history also found their way into my reading favorites. When it comes to watching movies, I NEVER pick a mystery. I don’t want to be scared! Books like The Wife Upstairs, All The Missing Girls, and You Shouldn’t Have Come Here.

Authors I Enjoy

Fredrik Backman wrote the 3 book series Beartown. I really enjoyed the first two books, however I felt the third one got a little drawn out. Tessa Bailey writes those feel-good love stories. Pretty predictable and easy to read, but enjoyable. Diane Chamberlines’ books seem to follow the same suspenseful storyline, however, I never figure out the storyline until the very end, so she is good!

Book Apps I Use

The Libby app is great because you can explore all kinds of genres. This is especially helpful for new readers who are discovering what they enjoy and which authors they like. Not only can listen to audiobooks, but you can read magazines, and download books for your Kindle. I stick with the audiobooks so I can multitask and listen using my Raycon Earbuds.

To keep myself organized I track the books I have read and those I would like to read, by using an app called Goodreads. If you are a reader you can follow me here.

  1. I have read all of the Emily Henry books and loved them. My favorite beach read is Elin Hilderbrand and all her Nantucket based stories. Just finished a cute one called ‘Second Chance Summer’ but can’t remember author. I will definitely check out a few you recommend. Thank you friend!
