Trays, not just for carrying your lunch in grade school anymore!

Adding a fun tray or old drawer to your end table adds interest to the design. On one of my junking trips I found this fun drawer.  What made it even more fun, this drawer has a Ditch Witch tag.  Ditch Witch is a local company that my Aunt worked at for years, so I had to have the drawer.  I wasn’t exactly sure where I was going to use it, but I knew I would find a place.  My end table started out like this.

Keep in mind when styling any space you should have something shiny, something (live- or fake green in my case) and something soft.  I think the books add the soft element.  If you don’t like the color of the spine of the old books you have, simply turn them around (the book in the middle has a red spine).  This arrangement works fine, but look what happens when I add a great window frame to the wall behind the table.  *tip – don’t hang your pictures (old window frames) too high!!  Keep them low and at a seated eye level in a living room)

I love, love, love this window frame.  Another fun find off of a local Facebook swap page!  When I bought it, it was the same color as my wall.  I gave it a quick coat of white paint and then sanded down the edges to give it a worn look. Have I told you how much I love this window frame?

Ok, enough about the window and more about adding a tray.  Trays should be useful……….or cute! In this case, cute! Look how much the table top arrangement changes by simply adding a tray.

One more thing, when hanging pictures (or window frames) keep them low!  To add even more visual interest, hang it just above the table. This one is maybe 6″ above the table.  If you hang it too high, it will feel like it is not part of the grouping.  Go lower some of our pictures, I dare you!

[…] First picture: I snagged the arched window frame – it was originally the same color as my wall – so I slapped a quick coat of white paint on it (remember I love paint!) and took some sand paper to the edges and hung it up – LOVE IT!!!  See how I styled the tray (old drawer) here. […]
