Adding Farmhouse Style to Our Half Bath

Pretty sure when we bought the house on Lyndale Drive both Mike and I thought we wouldn’t change a thing!  We loved it just the way it was.  I mean we still love it, but I think it needs some style!  Farmhouse style!   I absolutely love everything about chippy paint, re-purposed pieces and shiplap!!!

Let me remind you that we used to live in an authentic “OLD” house and it had plenty of chippy paint (in all the wrong places) and shiplap.  I find myself missing all that charm and character, however don’t miss the drafty windows, lack of central air, cold floors in the winter and unique wiring!!

Mike is having a hard time understanding why I need to “old up” the “new house”!!  I tell him not to worry and if he gets scared he can go to the man cave and let me be!  He always loves it when I’m done.

Adding shiplap to our master bedroom was my first big project in the new house.  We absolutely love the way it turned out.  Since I tackled that project all by myself, I figured I could handle the half bath too – right?!  I used the same wall board panels that I used in the master bedroom.  This project cost me less than $70.  I love a cheap makeover.

This beautiful mirror was salvaged from a dressing table that I had in our guest room.  The actual mirror itself had streaked over the years and needed to be replaced.  I thought we could have a glass company use the mirror we removed from the bathroom and simply cut it to the shape of this frame – easy peasy  – right?  Not so much.  They said we scratched the mirror when we took it down so they needed to cut us a new one………..for $138!  So much or cheap up-cycling!The farmhouse looking light fixture came from Lowe’s in antique bronze (I painted mine black) and love how it compliments the mirror.  Both pieces are a great contrast against the white shiplap.  Still in debating if I should paint the base cabinet white or black.  For now, I will leave it like it is.

I had a hard time deciding what to put on the walls and above the toilet.  I am no different than you when I need inspiration, I turn to Pinterest!!  I found some really cute ideas using ladders and fell in love with the idea of using a ladder over the toilet.  The height of the ladder draws you eye up (away from the toilet) and helps to provide balance with the mirror.  I added the wire basket and can easily change the contents with the seasons.

Hobby Lobby always has a great clearance sales.  I was super pumped when I found these to prints for $9.  I love the simplicity of the fern leaf and black frames.

Since replacing the tile floor would have totally sent Mike over the edge I opted for a cute rug from Target.  Gives me the look of the tile I love without the heart attack for Mike!! Win Win!
