Designing a Nursery

It has been a few years since I decorated the nursery for our granddaughter Ava, and now it is time to decorate for baby #2.  My daughter Whitney scanned Pinterest for ideas, came up with the theme and I put it all together.  The whimsical look of playful giraffes became the theme.  When we started designing the room we didn’t know the gender of baby #2 and wouldn’t know until the baby was born.  So decorating this nursery was a bit more challenging.

We painted the walls white, since the new crib and dresser are a charcoal gray.  This provided for the prefect canvas to paint these whimsical giraffes over the crib.  (sorry for the poor quality of this photo – it was snapped quickly with a cell phone while I was painting them).  I painted two of the giraffes gray and we waited……………..for the baby to arrive.  Knowing if the baby arrived a girl, Whitney and Luke already had plenty of baby items that will fit right into the new nursery and I would simply paint the two remaining giraffes PINK.  If the baby were a boy, well then, we would go shopping.

No need to shop for blue, because we were blessed with Allie Kay!  After she arrived I painted the remaining two giraffes PINK!  I free handed these images but if you don’t think you have it in you to do that, you could have an image blown up at an office supply store and use it as a pattern.

The curtains are from Pottery Barn and are room darkening.  My daughter loves them because when they are closed along with the blinds being shut the girls rooms are pitch black.  They have two good sleepers, so it must be working!
The dresser also serves as a dressing table (for grandparents) the kids change the littles on the floor or where ever they are at the time, but us elders tend to find it hard or dangerous to get the baby and ourselves off the floor safely!  The crib will convert to a toddler bed and then to a twin or full.  Nice as the kids out grow the crib.  The sweet signs above the dresser are from Hobby Lobby.
I am not sure where this cute little chair came from, but I know you can find them at HomeGoods and TJ Maxx.  Just above this chair is two picture/book shelves.  I didn’t take a picture of them, because…………well, they just aren’t as cute as these two girls!!  This little space in Allie’s room will one day make a good reading nook.  Books are an important part of the girls lives, it only makes sense, their momma is a reading teacher! Sleep tight little one…..
